Tips for creating the infrastructure to support the delivery of high-impact results

1. Developing cross functional teams that focus on "system" issues supports culture transformation by creating common goals and opening communication.  The key is to create the framework for effective communication.
2. Enlisting your "Opinion Leaders" in rapid improvement efforts can help support and facilitate results.
3. Rather than perform process improvement efforts by department, create a team to examine the healthcare delivery system for a specific patient type.
4. Do not wait until you receive the feedback from your patient surveys to try to understand voice of the customer.
5. Train and/or recognize those within your organization who can facilitate well. Train and/or recognize those who have good project management skills. These are the people you want involved in your continuous improvement efforts.
6. To gain buy-in to your efforts, help your team understand that by identifying and eliminating the "waste," they will actually have more time to spend focusing on the things that really matter.
